Commune.1

My friend Greg Streak told me about Commune.1 as he has a show coming up there next year.
It looks like a great gallery. I loved the show entitled "Umlungu" (white person) by Christopher Swift. He makes works using varied materials such as telephone books, discarded shower glass (see left) and other found objects. I particularly like the piece entitled "The Magic Faraway Tree" (see right).

Swift's work is multi-layered but does reference the famous Mid Century South African artist Pierneef in the use of the stylized tree.
